To avoid a fight isn't a bad thing, especially if you are a skilled combatant. Sometimes you simply have no other choice, even though you've emphasized that fighting you is a really bad idea...

If diplomacy fails, let them have it their way. It's probably not necessary to kill them, but let them know, feel and never forget, that it definitely was a terrible decision they made this day!
